The components we supply

• Control panel: zone-based on a conventional system, loop-based on an addressable one.
• Optical smoke detectors: the most common, for offices, corridors and bedrooms.
• Heat detectors: for kitchens, garages and boiler rooms, where fumes would trigger a smoke detector needlessly.
• Beam detectors: for halls and warehouses with ceilings too high for point detectors.
• Manual call points at exits and staircases.
• Sounders and bells with strobes: the strobe is essential in high-noise premises such as factories, where a bell is simply not heard.
• Batteries sized for a long standby period followed by a full alarm period.

Conventional or addressable: the practical rule

A conventional system divides the building into zones, so the panel reports a fire on the second floor without naming the detector. It is the economical answer for shops, villas and small buildings. An addressable system gives each detector a unique address so the panel names the room, carries far more devices per loop, and saves substantial cabling in large buildings. The larger the area and the more floors, the more the choice moves to addressable — because pinpointing a fire saves decisive minutes.

• Shop or showroom: conventional panel with two or three zones + smoke detectors + a manual call point at the exit + bell.
• Villa: small panel + smoke detectors on the floors and corridors + a heat detector in the kitchen + sounder.
• Factory or high warehouse: addressable system + beam detectors for the high ceilings + heat detectors over process areas + sounders with strobes.
• Hotel or hospital: addressable loops + detectors in every room and corridor + integration with the public address system for evacuation announcements.

Cable: the item that fails inspections

Fire alarm cable must be fire-rated and keep working while the fire burns. Ordinary cable means the system falls silent at exactly the moment it is needed, and it is the leading reason installations are rejected at inspection after the work is finished. It is not an item we economise on.

Civil Defence

We design from day one on the basis that the system will be inspected: manual call points distributed at exits and staircases, complete coverage with no gaps, compliant cable, and documented drawings. Modifying an already-installed system to pass inspection costs several times what installing it correctly would have.

Periodic testing

A fire alarm is the only system that can sit faulty for months unnoticed, precisely because it is not used daily. The scheduled visit tests a sample of detectors with test gas, triggers every manual call point, measures the batteries and reviews the panel fault log.
