Security for resorts and residential compounds

A resort or compound has an unusual security problem: a large, mostly open site where the people inside are guests who must not feel watched, and where the boundary is long, decorative and not built to stop anyone.

The design therefore concentrates on control points rather than coverage. The vehicle gate, the pedestrian entrance, the reception area, the pool and the parking areas carry most of the value. Cameras spread evenly across landscaped grounds look thorough on a drawing and deliver very little.

Access control for residents and guests is where these sites most often struggle, because the population changes constantly. A system where a departing tenant's card keeps working, or where guest access is handled by a written list at the gate, undermines everything else. Credentials that expire by themselves solve this better than any procedure.

Zoning and a central control point matter here more than in most settings. A site of this size needs someone able to see the whole thing from one place, with the ability to look at any alerted area quickly. Without that, a large camera count simply produces recordings nobody watches until after something happens.

• Pool, parking and any plant or store areas
• Self-expiring credentials for tenants and guests
• A central control point with zoned views
