What to check before buying a 4G booster in Egypt

A booster only works if it matches the frequency band your operator uses in your area, and that varies by operator and by location. A device bought online without checking bands is the most common reason a booster arrives and changes nothing.

Egyptian operators run 4G on different bands in different areas, and a booster covering the wrong band will faithfully amplify a frequency nobody is using. Before purchase, identify your operator, check which band your phone is actually connected on in a field test screen, and match the booster to it.

Gain figures on the box mean less than people assume. A high-gain amplifier in a location with poor outdoor signal, or with insufficient antenna separation, will oscillate and shut down rather than deliver its rated performance. Correct installation contributes far more to the result than the headline gain number.

And the regulatory point again, because it matters: signal boosters require authorisation from the National Telecom Regulatory Authority in Egypt. Ask any supplier about this directly — a supplier who dismisses the question is telling you something about how they work.

• Outdoor signal strength at the proposed antenna position
• Achievable separation between outdoor and indoor antennas
• Area to be covered and how many indoor antennas that needs
